Restricted Professions:

In order to protect the Thai workforce from Non-Thai competition, several jobs are prohibited to Non-Thai nationals. The list of professions restricted to foreigners is governed by a Royal Decree and might be edited without prior notice. 

 


The following professions are prohibited to foreign nationals:

@ All kinds of labor work, except crewmenship in the fishery industry

@ Cultivation, animal breeding, forestry and fishery works, except labor work in maritime fishery and work              requiring specific skills

@ Masonry, carpentry and all other construction works

@ Wood carving

@ Piloting vehicles, both motorized and non-motorized, except piloting international aircraft

@ Shop clerking

@ Auctioneering

@ Accounting services, except international auditing

@ Gem cutting and polishing

@ Hair cutting, hair dressing and cosmetician works

@ Manual weaving

@ Mat weaving and manufacturing products from reed, rattan, kenaf, straw or bamboo

@ Manual manufacturing of paper

@ Manufacturing of lacquerware

@ Production of traditional Thai musical instruments

@ Manufacturing of nielloware

@ Goldsmith arts, silversmith arts and other precious metal works

@ Manufacturing of bronzeware

@ Manufacturing of traditional Thai dolls

@ Manufacturing of mattresses and padded blankets

@ Manufacturing of bowls

@ Manual manufacturing of silk products

@ Manufacturing of Buddha statues

@ Manufacturing of knives

@ Manufacturing of umbrellas

@ Manufacturing of shoes

@ Manufacturing of hats

@ Brokerage and agency works, except in international businesses

@ Engineering and civil engineering, except works requiring specialized skills

@ Architectural works

@ Manufacturing of dresses

@ Manufacturing of pottery and ceramics

@ Manual cigarette rolling

@ Tourist guiding and tour organizing

@ Hawking business

@ Type setting for Thai characters

@ Manual silk reeling and weaving

@ Clerical and secretarial work

@ Legal and litigation services, except arbitration and legal cases where foreign law is applicable
